What makes Fernie special to you?
Breathtaking scenery, the lakes, rivers and streams that dot and crisscross the valley, the incredible skiing, biking and fishing at your back door. All of these things were factors in my decision to pack my life into my tiny car and move to Fernie. That being said, none of them influenced my decision to stay as much as the people I’ve met did. The community feel and the pride that the people of Fernie have for their town and this valley are what keep me here year after year. There is a unique spirit about Fernie that makes it so special for me.
What makes you proud to be Canadian?
Being born and raised in Canada has always given me a sense of pride. It is a place with a long history and a bright future. Canada’s diversity, open-mindedness and multiculturalism allow people to lead their own journeys and live their lives the way they choose. Layer that on top of a landscape that will take your breath away no matter where you travel from coast to coast, and you have a place that I will always be proud to call my home.
What is your Fernie story?
I’ve lived in Fernie for a total 3 years now. Originally from Sudbury Ontario, I moved out here in 2015 to attend school at the College of The Rockies. In those 9 months, I learned so much about the area and what Fernie truly has to offer. Amazing people and exceptional recreation created the perfect storm to trap me here. A few more years down the line and its only gotten better. Meeting new people and living new experiences daily keep this little town overflowing with opportunity and potential. The only constant from day to day is the adventurous lifestyle of Fernie.
