What makes Fernie special to you?

Special does not begin to truly describe what Fernie means to me.  It has shaped who I am, as I spent my childhood dreaming of being here, and all of my adult life living here.  When I look at the history of Fernie, it is full of adversities, failures, dreams, and successes.  The chaos and circumstance of that history often parallels people’s journeys in getting here.  It is never easy to get here and stay, next to impossible to ever want to leave!

What makes you proud to be Canadian?

I have travelled the world wide over and experienced as many things as I could.  I have never met a person in my travels that has not heard of, dreamt of, or planned to one-day visit Canada.  It is an amazing feeling to see how much of an influence our country has on people, even those that have never been here.  My grandparents were part of the generation that fought for Canada in the Great Wars, and in turn shaped what our country is today.  I hope the adventures of my lifetime; will be reflected upon by my children with similar admiration when they are older.  I am very proud to be part of such an amazing country.

What is your Fernie story?

I grew up staring at the mountains and wishing I was in them every day.  I was very lucky to be a weekend & summer warrior in Fernie for my entire childhood.  I knew that no matter what, I would one day call Fernie my home.  My entire family now calls Fernie home.  Many of my best friends from my youth continue to be some of my best friends today.  I am very happy that my wife Meghan, daughter Kylar, son Zander, and I get to live in such a visually inspiring, and adventurous place.  Snow Valley Forever.
