What makes Fernie special to you?
I am proud to be a Fernie-ite as I am the first generation to be born here & the amazing community groups for new mommies and babies. We were made to feel welcome & supported from the very beginning. The Doula support, Bellies to babies, Little Sprouts & Rhyme time at the library are all groups that we look forward weekly. These groups showed us what it’s like to be part of an amazing group of new parents and babes who love and support each other
What makes you proud to be Canadian?
I am proud to be Canadian as my Papa Farkas immigrated with his parents from Hungary when he was a small boy; his parents wanted to give him the best chance at a safe, secure life for himself and future generations. I am proud to be part of a country that loves and excepts everyone. I am also proud of our love for the environment and protecting nature and me being able to play safely and freely in the great outdoors.
What is your Fernie story?
My Daddy moved here 19 years ago from Winnipeg and my Mommy 16 years ago from Okotoks. They met and fell in love 15 years ago. They made the decision that this was where they wanted to set roots and have a family when they married in 2011 here in Fernie. I was born at the Elk Valley regional hospital on July 23rd, 2015. My Mommy’s immediate family all live here (my cousins and Auntie & Uncle live right next door). My Mimi and Bubby live only 5 blocks away. It is so special to me that I get to grow up with my family members so close by. I cannot wait to grow a little bit older and be able to walk to friends houses or school, hit the slopes at Fernie Alpine Resort and enjoy all the amazing community events. As my parents like to say “We live where you vacation”.
